Our Bureau SpiceJet flights to Kochi, Ahmedabad, Patna, Pune, Goa, Surat and Gorakhpur from Delhi will shift to Terminal 2 (T2) from the current Terminal 1 (T1) from March 25.
All remaining domestic flights will continue to operate from T1, the airline said in a statement.
“To facilitate smooth, uninterrupted operations and easier identification for passengers, the airline has programmed all the new flights operating to and from T2 to have a four-digit flight number starting with number 8,” it said.
The Delhi airport operator had asked low-cost airlines SpiceJet, IndiGo and GoAir, to move part of their operations from T1 to T2 at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, to carry out development work at Terminal 1.
While GoAir shifted their operations, IndiGo and SpiceJet had opposed the move. The two airlines have now been forced to move following a court ruling upholding the airport operator’s decision.
The operator has said this was a temporary shift, to carry out the expansion work at T1 and ease the pressure of the fast-growing traffic at the terminal.
“T1 is set to be expanded from the current capacity of 20 million to 40 million per annum with 22 aerobridges and state-of-the-art infrastructure. The expansion process will encompass all major areas of the airport including landside, terminal and airside, and will be completed within four years,” it said in a statement.
