Amid spot-fixing and betting allegations, a public interest litigation has been filed at the Madras High Court seeking Government takeover of the management of BCCI and IPL. The PIL, filed by a Madurai-based lawyer, alleges that the activities and income of the BCCI were commercial with no element of charity in its conduct.
The PIL said the surplus generated by BCCI was shared with players instead of being used to promote the game. It urged the CBI to investigate into the affairs pertaining to income, financial status, betting and fixing and also pleaded for a stay on IPL matches till May 26. Notices have been sent by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to the Secretary, Department of Culture and Youth Affairs; Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL; and N. Srinivasan, President, BCCI to respond within two weeks.
