In a major boost to sports infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy today directed setting up of a sports university and sports stadium in all the Assembly constituencies in the State.
Thus far administrative sanction for 87 new greenfield sports stadia-cum-cultural centres have been issued in addition to the 30 ongoing stadia works at a total cost of Rs 288.23 crore, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
The Government is keen that these sports facilities will serve as nodal centres to train and groom youth in various sports streams. The infrastructure will also serve and encourage cultural activities, he said while reviewing sports and youth affairs.
Thirty-five Assembly constituencies already have sports stadia. Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation has been appointed as the nodal agency for the construction of the stadia. The National Academy of Construction has been appointed as the third party quality maintenance agency.
