The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear the plea of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association to permit the use of the three sealed stands, at the M. A. Chidambaram stadium, for the IPL match scheduled for 8 p.m.
The Chennai Corporation on Sunday sealed the I, J and K stands on the grounds that they have not obtained planning permission and building approval but had been open for the ongoing IPL-6 tournament. The TNCA has appealed to the apex court for allowing use of the stands, which account for around 11,000 seats, tickets for which have been sold. The match on Tuesday is between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils.
The sealing followed a stay issued by the Supreme Court on a February 6 Madras High Court order. The High Court had put aside the orders of the Tamil Nadu Housing and Urban Development Department, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the Chennai Corporation and the Additional Commissioner of Police, which prevented TNCA from using the reconstructed stands in the stadium.
