Jagmohan Dalmiya will continue to look after the affairs of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as its acting President.

The BCCI Working Committee, which was scheduled after the IPL Governing Council meeting and expected to be chaired by N. Srinivasan, was called off on Friday.

However, at the IPL Governing Council meeting, where Srinivasan “recused” himself, the members decided that they would file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court order which termed the IPL probe commission’s findings illegal and unconstitutional.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the IPL Governing Council meeting, Ratnakar Shetty, BCCI’s Game Development Officer, said though Srinivasan was present, he recused himself.

“It was only after that the meeting started, where (Arun) Jaitley explained the observations of the Mumbai High Court order to the members. There was a discussion in the committee and the committee decided to file an SLP in the Supreme Court.”

In a statement, the BCCI said, “At its meeting in Delhi earlier today, the IPL Governing Council (N. Srinivasan having recused himself) considered at length, the issues arising from the Bombay High Court’s order regarding the constitution of the probe commission, which was formed to investigate the complaints made by the BCCI against India Cements Ltd, Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Ltd, Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra.”

The statement added that as a matter of principle, the members said that it was important that the Governing Council’s actions, “be and be seen to be both legally and ethically correct. The Governing Council believes that the probe commission was properly constituted in accordance with the IPL Operational Rules, and has consequently decided that an appeal should be filed in the Honourable Supreme Court.”

BCCI’s statement added, “This decision having been made, N. Srinivasan rejoined the meeting and, in the light of the pending appeal to the Supreme Court, requested Jagmohan Dalmiya to continue discharging his functions at the BCCI for the present.”

The IPL Governing Council also took the decision to replace Ajay Shirke and Sanjay Jagdale, who had earlier resigned on the Ethics Commission with secretary, Sanjay Patel and treasurer, Ravi Sawant.
