Brazil back in top 10 in major FIFA rankings shake-up

Mighty Brazil returned into the top 10 courtesy of their Confederations Cup title and there were milestones for Colombia and Belgium as well as a flurry of matches in recent weeks shook up the latest football world rankings issued today.

Brazil shot from 22nd to ninth after winning all five matches at the home World Cup tune-up, culminating in Sunday’s 3-0 demolition of Spain in the Rio de Janeiro final.

But the world and European champions Spain retained first place in the rankings ahead of Germany, with Colombia now third thanks to strong World Cup qualifying results, which also lifted Belgium into the top 10 for the first time in 10th.

But England fell from ninth to 15th and Ecuador dropped out of the top 10 as well, from 10th to 18th.
