Can ayurveda provide the ‘through pass’ to tackle superstar footballer Neymar’s injury?
Possibly yes, if a proposal suggested to the Kerala Government by physicians at the Government Ayurveda College Hospital is anything to go by.
Treatment regime
In a report submitted to Chief Ministe, Oommen Chandy, the hospital authorities have aired their willingness and state of readiness to provide treatment to the injury that has laid down the Brazilian star.
They have suggested a regime under which Neymar would be subjected to treatment for three weeks at home in Brazil and 30 days in football-crazy Kerala, half-a-world away.
This was in response to an enquiry from the Chief Minister and Health Minister VS Sivakumar after experts sounded them about ayurveda’s capabilities in dealing with the injury type bothering Neymar.
Sources said that the hospital had treated several cases of spine of various types in the past and a vast majority of them had recovered.
Vertebra injury
The Kerala Government proposes to inform Brazilian football authorities about ayurveda remedies and treatment methods available in the State, they added.
Neymar was ruled out of the World Cup after fracturing a vertebra during Friday's quarterfinal match against Colombia.
In the 86th minute of play, Colombian defender Juan Zuniga had jumped behind Neymar and kneed him in the lower back, causing the Brazilian forward to fall onto to the pitch and cry out in pain.
He had to be stretchered out to the collective angst of millions of fans watching the gripping match.
