David Andrew Warner, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is upbeat about his team’s prospects in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Warner, the southpaw from Australia, and Kane Williamson, the right-handed batsman from New Zealand, who have been belting bowlers all around the park for SRH, took some time off from their sporting schedule and training to be at a retail outlet of the Japanese sports goods manufacturers Asics Store.
In a relaxed setting away from the playing field, the 30-year-old Warner, asked about the IPL season and SRH’s prospects, told
“We have been playing good cricket thus far, and need to keep the momentum going and continue to work as hard as we can. Some games have been tough. There has been a bit of the dew factor. Things can be different from one game to another,” he says.
On the performance of young cricketers in the IPL, Warner said “Young kids play with lot of freedom. There is not much expectation and pressure on them. That is when you get a chance to express yourself and make a mark. It is not just about one good season, but about the next couple of years: how they shape themselves and plan as bowlers would get better and work you out.”
On being a leading run getter in tests and one-dayers, Williamson said, “I don't look too far ahead. I just take it one game at a time and try and contribute to the team I am in. It is as simple as that.”
“I am enjoying my association with the IPL. This is my third year here. It is wonderful to see the popularity of the game and the passion around it. Naturally, it provides an opportunity to be part of a fantastic competition,” he said.
Asics, the six-decades-old Japanese manufacturer of running shoes, derives its name from the acronym of the Latin phrase anima sana in corpore sano , which means “A sound mind in a sound body.”
Warner said, “The brand continuously stimulates me to keep pushing my boundaries, and I am hoping to have a great stint at this year’s IPL.”
