Rain and wet ground conditions continued to hold up the second cricket Test between India and South Africa and play was called off for a third successive day without a single ball being bowled here today.
The second and third day already going down the drain owing to bad weather, the fourth day was also called off after the match officials were forced to cancel play till lunch and then take an early call for stumps.
The umpires inspected the ground thrice after a rain-free morning raised hopes for some play. However, the damp conditions coupled with a steady drizzle did not allow the resumption of proceedings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The play was officially called off at 2:30 pm. With the weather forecast for the next few days also remaining same, there is no possibility of a result.
India were 80 for no loss in reply to South Africa’s first innings score of 214 on the opening day. Shikhar Dhawan (45) and Murali Vijay (28) are at the crease.
Weather permitting, the match will resume at 9:15 am tomorrow.
