Serena Williams extended her lead in the women’s tennis rankings with her weekend French Open title, while dethroned Maria Sharapova dropped from the second to third in the latest WTA list issued on Monday.
The American Williams has 13,615 points to rank ahead of Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, a Paris semi-finalist and ahead again with 9,625 points of Sharapova, who has 9,415 after losing the Paris final to Williams on Saturday.
Russian Maria Kirilenko made the top 10 for the first time in her career, up from 12th to 10th from a quarter-final berth in Paris.
