The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group has christened the Pune franchise as Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG) in the ensuing IPL season.
The team will be lead by India’s one-day and T-20 (cricket) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The Fleming-Dhoni duo has already worked for the now-suspended Chennai Super Kings franchise.
During a press conference on Monday, Sanjiv Goenka revealed his team’s logo.
Player auctions are to be held on February 6.
New sports CEO Sanjiv Goenka has declared former Rajasthan Royals official Raghu Iyer as the CEO of sports vertical of the group.
Apart from cricket, the group has 50 per cent controlling stake in Kolkata franchise, Atletico de Kolkata of Indian Super League (ISL) football tournament. The group is also keen to expand its sports business.
“(Raghu) Iyer is joining as the CEO of the sports vertical of the group,” he said.
“The group will continue to look aggressively for opportunities in the sports arena,” he added.
According to Sanjiv Goenka, the sports vertical is operated through separate companies that come under the group fold.
He further clarified that “losses from the cricketing venture”, if any, “will not be included” in CESC’s or his other listed entities’ balance sheet.
The group has also initiated talks for merchandising agreements (for IPL).
