McLeod Russel India Ltd, world’s largest tea planter, has won the three-year (2015-17) title rights for a financial commitment of Rs 4.5 crore to the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Royal Calcutta Golf Club Championship.
This is for the second time in succession McLeod Russel of the Williamson Magor Group got the title sponsorship right for the tournament. As part of its branding exercise, it had spent Rs 4.1 crore in the first edition (2012-14) of the championship that guarantees all participants a prize money.
McLeod Russel Tour Championship, a 4-day event, will commence here on December 24. The 72-hole stroke-play tournament will see top 60 PGTI ranked professional golfers and 11 sponsor invitees compete for the total prize money of Rs 1.5 crore. McLeod invitee golfers would include four foreign players.
The champion would get Rs 22.5 lakh and the runner up would fetch Rs 15 lakh. The lowest placed player would get Rs 51,750.
