Five years after Volkswagen Motorsport introduced the Polo Racing Cup in India the Polo Cup is evolving in the Vento Cup beginning with the 2015 season.

The event will feature Volkswagen Vento sedans specially developed for the circuit racing.

“Everybody is racing in larger cars elsewhere in the world, and racing on the bigger sedan will make it easier for these drivers to step in,” Sirish Vissa, head of VW Motorsport India said.

Based on the series production cars, the Vento race cars have specially reinforced chassis, and higher performance derived from a 1.4-litre TSI engine mated with a six-speed DSG gearbox producing maximum power of 180 PS and maximum torque of 250 Nm. The cars will be equipped with all the safety features as prescribed by FIA such as roll-cage, racing seat, six-point harness, fire extinguisher etc.

Based on the same lines as that of Polo R Cup, Vento Cup will serve as a one-make series with equally prepared cars being given for the entire season to 24 racing drivers selected across three classes. The racing competition will thus test the skills of the drivers who will be chosen through a selection programme, the registrations for which open from today.

After being selected, drivers will be further trained and prepared to compete in races that will be conducted as a part of the 18th JK Tyre Racing Championship.

Through the Polo series, VW Motorsport has nurtured over 65 drivers and sponsored 11 drivers so far.
