Tennis star Sania Mirza donated an autographed Wilson tennis racquet to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India which is being auctioned online at ebay.com.

The proceeds of the sale of the racquet will benefit Animal Rahat, which is supported by PETA India and provides working animals with relief.

In addition to her many feats on tennis court, Mirza was named one of the 50 Heroes of Asia.

In a statement from PETA, Mirza said, “The funds we raise from auctioning my tennis racquet will provide comfort to horses forced to pull heavy carts, bullocks who work in sugar mills and donkeys who are forced to labour in the brick kilns.”

She enjoys a career high rank of 27th in singles and seventh in doubles. She was the first Indian to win Women’s Tennis Association Tour title of any kind by prevailing in the 2009 Australian Open. She also won the 2012 French Open in mixed doubles to claim second Grand Slam title.

Animal Rahat was founded in 2003 to give relief to animals forced to work.
