Former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming was today named as the coach of the new Pune franchise of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) of the Twenty20 cricket tournament.
The Sanjiv Goenka-owned Pune franchise had in the December draft picked up Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Faf du Plessis and Steve Smith.
“I warmly welcome Stephen Fleming as the Chief Coach. He has been remarkably successful as a player in the international arena and I firmly believe that his technical know-how, perseverance and organisation skills will work wonders for our team,” Goenka said as per a release.
Dhoni and Fleming as the captain-coach duo had successfully led the now banned Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to two successive IPL triumphs.
Pune and Rajkot are the two new teams for this season’s IPL. The two come in place of the CSK and Rajsthan Royals.
The IPL 2016 is slated to start April 9.
