Yuwa, a Jharkhand-based not-for-profit organisation, has put together a soccer team of 18 players to take part in two sporting events in Spain. Yuwa’s mission is to “promote a youth-driven approach to community advancement in rural areas”.

It supports the “underserved families, who earn less than a dollar a day, through soccer.” The team’s participation in the Donosti Cup and Gasteiz Cup has been sponsored by Gamesa Wind Turbines, the Spanish wind turbine major which has a significant presence in the Indian market.

“Spain always has his deep everlasting connect with football. Gamesa being a leading Spanish company in India, it is ideal for us to share this cross-cultural connection by supporting India at the Donosti and the Gasteiz Cup”, Ramesh Kymal, Chairman and Managing Director, Gamesa Wind Turbines, has said in a press release.

The team will fly from Kolkata to Dubai to Madrid on 27th June. They will travel overland to San Sebastian for the Donosti Cup (1st – 6th July). They will also be visiting the Santiago Bernabeu stadium owned by Real Madrid, on 7th July. The team will travel to Vitoria-Gasteiz for the Gasteiz Cup. After competing, they will return to Madrid for their flight back to Kolkata on 13th July.
