Former Union Minister Subramanian Swamy is set to enjoy the perks of government accommodation on security considerations. Interestingly, this comes in the backdrop of the National Herald case where Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been summoned in court on Saturday.
According to news reports, security was on Friday beefed up at the Patiala House District Court premises.
The Cabinet Committee on Accommodation chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh has decided to allot Swamy a government house on Thursday, a senior official in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation told BusinessLine.
CCA has taken into consideration that Swamy is a Z-category protectee with CRPF cover and there is no place at his present place of residence for deployment of armed guards, the official said.
It is learnt that according to a security threat assessment carried out by central security agency, there is a felt need for proper government accommodation for him for effective deployment of security for Swamy. “He will have to pay five times the normal license fee for the accommodation,” he added.
Moreover, Punjab DGP KPS Gill and Chairman of Anti-Terrorism Front MS Bitta will get to retain government accommodation till May 2018 based on security considerations at special license fee of five times the normal. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat has also been allowed to retain government accommodation in New Delhi on medical grounds keeping in view that state government guest house is under demolition.
