As the bidding for the iconic Taj Mansingh Hotel closed on Thursday, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), got only two bids.
NDMC had opened the e-auction bidding for 20 days, from May 18 to June 7.
“In the process, which was going on for past 20 days, so far we have received two bids for the e-auction of Taj Mansingh,” a senior NDMC official told BusinessLine .
He, however, did not reveal the name of the interested parties.
Apart from Taj Mansingh, bidding was on for The Connaught and Hotel Asian International for the past 20 days.
The e-auction of Taj Mansingh was conducted by MSTC. SBI Capital Markets is the transaction advisor . Last week, the Supreme Court had refused to interfere with a Delhi High Court order giving NDMC the green signal to go ahead with the auction of the hotel.
The Tata Group’s Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) had moved to the apex court, challenging the May 22 order of the Delhi High Court allowing an e-auction.
Special leave petition
After the verdict by the apex court, IHCL had come out with a statement saying that the company has withdrawn the special leave petition before the court.
The 292-room hotel was given to IHCL on a lease for 33 years, which ended in 2011. After the lease expired, the municipal body decided to auction the property.
However, IHCL had knocked on the doors of the Delhi High Court challenging the decision.
After several extensions, it the Supreme Court upheld the decision for e-auction last year.
