Hyderabad is all set to add yet another distinction in one year.
It will boast of the country’s tallest statue of BR Ambedkar, going by the decision and claim of the Telangana Government.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation stone of the 125 feet tall statue on April 14, the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar, who was the chief architect of the Constitution of India.
According to a decision taken by the government, a Committee led by deputy CM Kadiam Srihari will identify the location. The project will be completed in exactly one year. The tallest statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar measures up to 15 metres now.
Recently the Andhra Pradesh Government led by N Chandrababu Naidu also announced its intention of constructing a similar sized statue for Ambedkar, who is very much in the centre stage of politics now.
The UP government had also announced plans to raise a 125-feet statue in April 2015.
Buddha milestone Interestingly, Hyderabad is already home to the world’s tallest monolithic statue of the Buddha.
Erected on a rock (rock of Gibraltar) in the middle of the picturesque Hussain Sagar Lake, the statue weighs 350 tonnes and stands 18 metres tall (or 58 feet).
