Tanager, formerly known as Agribusiness Systems International (ASI), a non-profit firm, on Wednesday signed an MoU with Girijan Cooperative Corporation Ltd (GCC) for improving market readiness of farmers in the Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh.
It is a part of Tanager’s current project — Andhra Pradesh Farmers Market Readiness Program (APFMRP) — supported by Walmart Foundation. Amit Kumar Singh, Country Representative, Tanager, India, and T Babu Rao Naidu, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of GCC, signed the MoU for three years.
The main objective of the MoU is to strengthen economic development of tribal farmers in Andhra Pradesh by providing support to them in procurement and marketing of agricultural produce and minor forest produce.
Amit Kumar Singh said it would further strengthen Tanager India's position as the market leader in the field and it would be of great help to tribal farmers in AP.
Tanager has also partnered with the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) and is working with existing FPOs formed under Andhra Pradesh Rural Inclusive Growth Programme (APRIGP). Tanager also works with ITDA in the tribal areas covering the districts of East Godavari, West Godavari, Anantapur and Vishakhapatnam to help farmers growing cashew, maize, peanut, coffee and vegetables.
