Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had laid foundation stone for Gattu irrigation project in Jogulamba Gadwal district on Friday. The project will provide water to 33,000 acres in four mandals in the district.

“As many as 41 tanks will be flush with water once the project is completed,” the Chief Minister has said.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the project, he said the government would spend ₹554 crore to complete the project.

Though YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Kiran Kumar Reddy, the then Chief Ministers of the combined Andhra Pradesh, promised to take up the project, works never took off for want of funds and permissions.

“Works on the promised Gattu High level canal could not be taken up during Rajasekhara Reddy regime because the government had not allocated funds. Kiran Kumar Reddy government failed to get permissions,” a government release said here on Friday.

With Gattu lift irrigation project about 2.8 tmc of water would be supplied to 41 tanks, assuring water to 33,000 acres in the four mandals.
