The Telangana Government aims to double the budgetary allocation for healthcare, which is high on the priority list of the new government.
K T Rama Rao, Minister for IT and Panchayat Raj, said the allocation last year was less than two per cent, while some government had allocated more than 10 per cent of the total budgetary provisions.
“Our government would set a target of at least doubling the present allocation to start with,” he said after inaugurating the Indo-Global Healthcare Summit here today.
He said efforts were underway to get the Medical Council of India to renew the recognition of medical college in Nizamabad, which was kept on hold due to inadequate faculty.
“We note that the status of other districts, particularly those in coastal Andhra Pradesh, is much better in case of public health. We will set up a super speciality hospital in each district,” he said.
Aaryogasri scheme
Later, talking to media persons, Rama Rao said the issue of continuation of the popular Aaryogasri scheme of the previous government, envisaging free treatment for those below poverty line in corporate hospitals, would be discussed by the Cabinet.
“This is an issue the (State) Government has to decide. I am part of the government, but not the government. All I can say now is that it will come up before the Cabinet,” he said.
