Tension continued at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus on Wednesday with Rohit Vemula’s mother staging protest and demanding action against Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao.
In a statement issued today, UoH said: "`Due to the unusual situation prevailing in the University, classes are suspended from March 23 to March 26, 2016.’’
Moreover media personnel, political groups, external student organisations and politicians will not be allowed into the campus, it said.
Meanwhile, JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, who arrived here this morning, is also scheduled to visit the university campus to participate in a condolence meeting for Vemula.
Police have been deployed in large numbers at the campus and are not allowing outsiders, including media, beyond the main gate. State Congress leader and MP, V Hanumantha Rao, was not allowed when he tried to join the protest.
The return of Vice-Chancellor P Appa Rao sparked off fresh trouble in the University of Hyderabad on Tuesday.
A group of students barged in and ransacked his official residence in protest against his rejoining, alleging that he was responsible for Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula’s suicide, and should step down from his post.
Rao had gone on long leave after Vemula committed suicide following his suspension from the hostel along with some other students of Ambedkar Students Association.
