The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and United Technologies Corporation on Wednesday launched the Centre of Excellence for Energy Efficient Buildings in India.
The centre is coming up at a time when the Government is working towards finalising the blueprint for 100 smart cities.
The centre will work towards the development of an energy use reporting framework for existing buildings, evaluation of the existing building energy rating system, real time reporting of consumption, among others.
According to a TERI study, buildings account for 30 per cent of total energy consumption in India.
The centre will first conduct a pan-India study of 100 buildings and is scheduled to cover cities such as Allahabad, Ajmer, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, among others.
