The four-day long Global Bird Watchers Conference was inaugurated here today.
The third annual conference inaugurated by Sanjay Kaul, Managing Director of Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited, will see participants from around 300 delegates including 80 foreign nationals from 40 countries.
Noted environmentalist Lav Kumar Khachar and Param Bhai Shah, Head, FICCI, Gujarat State Council were also present during the inauguration ceremony.
The event has been organised within the Rann Utsav campus to ensure it gets both national and international exposure.
During the conference, participants will visit the salt marshlands here in Kutch which are winter homes to several endangered migratory birds including Siberian Cranes, Larger and Lesser Flamingos, Pelicans, Spoon bill, Ducks, Harrier, Vulture, Eagle, Hubara Bustards, Cream Corser among others.
The event will provide birder watchers a platform to share their experience and also mull ways to conserve the avian visitors.
Throughout winters, about 300 species of birds migrating from Siberia, Central Asia, North Mongolia and Europe are spotted here.
Addressing the gathering here, Kaul announced that the fourth season of the conference will be organised from January 4 next year, adding that it be organised at a bigger scale.
The inaugural session was followed by a colourful cultural evening which showcased the rich heritage of Kutch and Gujarat.
