The severe cyclone 'Titli' that lies centered around West-Central Bay of Bengal is now forecast to become a destructive very severe cyclonic storm. 'Titli' lay about 320 km South-South-East of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 270 km southeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) this morning.
It is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclone during the next three hours. It would cross Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts tomorrow morning.
The India Meteorological Department has retained the likely areas of landfall as between Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam. Thereafter, 'Titli' would change track and raceacross the Odisha coast towards the plains of Bengal and weaken.
The very severe cyclonic storm is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls over Odisha, and heavy to very heavy rain over the plains of Bengal and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rain is also forecast at isolated places over Mizoram, Tripura andKerala.
Gale winds with a speed reaching up to 110 km/hr and gusting to 125 kmph prevail over the deep sea areas of west central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. They may escalate to 130 km/hr and gust to 145 km/hr from this evening. Gale winds with a speed reaching 70 km/hr and gusting to 80 km/hr are forecast to commence along and off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts from this afternoon.
Howling winds, heavy rain
They would gather a strength of 150 km/hr and gust to 165 km/hr along and off South Odisha and adjoining North Andhra Pradesh coasts from tonight. Wind speeds up to 80 km/hr and gusting to 90 km/hr are forecast along and off North Odisha and some more parts of north Andhra Pradesh. Winds speeds of 60 km/hr and gusting to 70 km/hr may commence along and off west Bengal coasts from today afternoon and will begin gusting to 80 km/hr from tonight.
Meanwhile, in the Arabian Sea, the very severe cyclone 'Luban' lay practically stationary over the West-Central basin, 610 km East-South-East of Salalah (Oman), 570 km East-North-East of Socotra Islands (Yemen), and 770 km East-South-East of Al Ghaidah (Yemen).
IMD sais that 'Luban' may move west-northwestwards towards Yemen and South Oman Coasts during the next four days. Gale winds with a speed reaching 130 km/hr and gusting to 145 km/hr are prevailing over the West-Central and adjoining South-West Arabian Sea.
'High' to 'phenomenal' (wave heights ranging from 20 ft to 46 ft or above) may prevail over these areas. Fishermen are advised not to venture out.
