The Tamil Nadu government has announced flood relief measures, including ₹ 10,000 compensation for each family that has lost its hut.
According to an official release, each such family will also get 10 kg rice, a dhoti and a sari. The government will also set aside 10,000 houses to be allotted to those who lost their dwelling.
Other families that have been affected by floods will receive ₹5,000, 10 kg rice and a dhoti and sari.
In a separate press release, the government has reassured people that the lakes to the south of Chennai along the Old Mahabalipuram Road at Karanai, Thaiyur, Sirudhavur, Kondangi, Manamadhi are intact. Public Works Department officials are continuously monitoring the situation, it added.
