“If AIADMK benefits from my stepping aside, then I am mature enough to understand there is nothing wrong in stepping aside,” the ruling party’s Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran said on Wednesday. He attributed the sudden revolt by Ministers to ‘some fear’ factor. However, Dinakaran said he would resign his post only after consulting General Secretary VK Sasikala since she appointed him. He was speaking to newspersons on the demand for his resignation, as a precondition to reunite the party.

Dinakaran finds himself in an untenable position with allegations of bribing voters in the by-poll to the RK Nagar Constituency in which he was a contestant. The by-poll followed the death of Jayalalithaa, who represented the constituency. The Election Commission called off the election that was to be held on April 12 after the I-T Department unearthed documents pointing to rampant bribing of voters. The evidence also indicated half a dozen Cabinet Ministers were linked to cash disbursements.
