The two Indian evacuation ships carrying 445 Indians that left the port of Djibouti from across the Yemeni shore on Sunday morning are expected to arrive at Kochi on April 18.

The passenger ships, accompanied by two warships, also carry a number of other nationals being evacuated from Yemen. The ships will first call on Mumbai port before heading to Kochi.

India had sent three ships, two from Kochi and another from Mumbai, for evacuating Indian nationals from the war-torn country. The third ship is yet to return.

Following the intensification of the attacks by the invading ten-nation troops and the stiff resistance by the Houthi rebels, Indian embassy in Sana’a, the Yemeni capital, has been closed.

Embassies of many other countries have shut down too.

Earlier, 4,640 Indians were airlifted from Yemen in week-long evacuation effort.

Indian flights also evacuated 960 expatriates from 41 countries.

Most of the Indian evacuees were expatriate workers from Kerala.

The majority of them were nurses working in private and government-run hospitals in the Arab country.
