Cab services company Uber, on Thursday, tied up with Singapore-based social enterprise iCare Life to offer a specially designed certification programme for women in India to train them as drivers.
The 4-month programme includes training and assessment on simulators and practical on-road training. Gagan Bhatia, Uber’s Delhi head, said, “We aim to create 50,000 women drivers across India by 2020.
The programme will be free of cost.” The course content and methodology for the programme will be deployed locally across 6 Indian languages through individual tablets. The mobilisation and screening process has already started, said a spokesperson for iCare Life.
