A seven-member team of senior officials from the US Food and Drugs Administration (USFDA), will visit Gujarat on Monday to engage with State officials for training and capacity building in the pharma sector.

The team, including senior advisor Carl Sciacchitano in the Office of the International Programme, will hold talks with senior officials of the Food and Drug Control Administration of Gujarat.

The team will discuss areas of training in the pharma sector, capacity building, knowledge and information sharing. In a statement, HG Koshia, Comissioner, FDCA, said that with a 33 per cent share in drug manufacturing in India and a 28 per cent share in the drug exports, Gujarat ranked was No 1 in the country’s pharma sector.

Gujarat has 117 units certified by the USFDA and exports large volumes of drugs to the US.
