Formula 1: Not so hot for hotels

With a dip in ticket sales and reduced buzz around the F1, not all Delhi-NCR region hotels are going houseful or witnessing huge increase in room rates like the first season of the F1 race.

Players also pointed out that unlike last year, when the hotels made the most of the high paying F1 teams by charging hiked prices, this year most F1 teams as well as officials had negotiated for room rates much in advance.

Digvijay Singh, General Manager, Taj Mahal Hotel, said, “We have received good footfalls due to F1 and are hosting various activities related with the race besides the occupancies that we have got due to the busy winter season.” Though he added, the buzz around F1 is milder this season compared to last season.

Hotels that are in the vicinity of the race track have hiked rates in the region of 15-30 per cent depending on the category of hotels.

Sanjay Kumar Jha, General Manager, Radisson Blu Greater Noida, said, “We are sold out as we are close to the race track and hosting the teams and other F1 officials.”

He too agreed that the enthusiasm is less compared to the first season as there was a lot more hype around the first season due to its novelty factor.

Others hotels such as Jaypee Greens Golf and Spa Resort, Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton at Mayur Vihar besides Claridges at Surajkund are hosting the teams and other F1 officials and are sold out for the F1 weekend.
