Over half of employed Indians surveyed on the issue of the duration of their paid vacations felt that the number of days they get is not fair in comparison the world average.
The survey conducted by travel site TripAdvisor involved more than 17,000 employed respondents across 11 countries including 1100 in India, a statement said. The other 10 countries include US, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain and the U.K.
On an average, Indians and Americans get allotted 18 days paid leave for vacations every year against a world average of 25 days. The French scored the highest number of average paid leave days per annum (31) followed by Russians with 29.
The findings also revealed that 47 per cent of Indian respondents did not mind doing a little work on vacation; 46 per cent would prefer to be totally disconnected, and 7 per cent enjoy being connected to work.
Nikhil Ganju, Country Manager, TripAdvisor India said, “While mostly no one enjoys having to work while on a vacation, today's hyper competitive and demanding work cultures preclude the fact that almost 50 per cent of Indians ended up attending to work while on vacation last year.”
Employees from a few other countries such as the US and Australia are ahead of Indians on this not-so-desirable indicator, clearly this is not a great trend from the point of view of advocates of a happy work-life balance, he added.
