Superstar Amitabh Bachchan seems to have done the trick for Gujarat’s tourism sector. Tourist arrivals in Gujarat have gone up by 50 lakh within two years after the Gujarat Government spent Rs 100 crore on tourism advertising campaign with Big B as the brand ambassador for the State.

Vipul Mitra, Principal Secretary-Tourism, Government of Gujarat said, “Gujarat witnessed 1.75 crore tourists two years ago and now it has gone up to 2.23 crore.”

He further added that the Government decided to adopt the direct approach and when Amitabh Bachchan said “Come, visit Dwarka” it worked. The Government has already spent about Rs 60 crore on promotions of Dwarka.

Gujarat is expected to add 65,000 hotel rooms from the current number of 45,000 within the next 3 years and about 100,000 rooms by the next 5 years.
