A boat club that is being developed at Gangapur dam here to boost tourism in Nashik, is likely to become operational by Diwali this year, NCP MP Sameer Bhujbal said here today.
“A boat club is proposed to be developed on Gangapur dam premises to boost tourism in Nashik. It would be open for public use by Diwali festival,” Bhubal told reporters.
Bhujbal visited the site with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) executive engineer Rahul Vasaikar, executive officer of Irrigation Department Anil Mhaske and others to take stock of the work.
As per the plan, an amusement park, garden, amphi- theatre, parking lots and restaurants are proposed to be raised around the dam.
However, nature lovers in the city have opposed this project saying it would affect the flora and fauna around the dam. They expressed fear that the boat-club would prove to be a threat to the migratory birds that visit the dam every year.
