The Indo-German Urban Mela (IGUM), a blend of technology, science, culture and entertainment has reached Pune, the last of five destinations.
Part of the celebration titled “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities” that commemorates 60 years of Indo-German diplomatic ties, the event is a set of cutting edge, multi-purpose pavilions, which are designed by renowned German installation artist and designer, Markus Heinsdorff, with a thematic focus on “StadtRäume – CitySpaces”.
It examines the impact of rapid urbanization and challenges posed by the pace of change in Indian and German cities today. Issues like mobility, energy, sustainable urban development, architecture, cultural space, education and urban art are prominently featured through a prism of fields such as business, science, education, technology and performing and visual arts.
Partnered by organisations like Bajaj Allianz, BASF, Bosch, Deutsche Bank, Siemens, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, among others, the mela will offer information through interactive features, games, models and experiments. Apart from these exhibitions, visitors can also feast on traditional German and Indian delicacies and beverages at the Beergarden.
Amongst the highlights is a performance by Midival Punditz on the opening day, performances by artists like Indian Ocean, Raghu Dixit, Ma Faiza, Agnee, Shaa’ir and Func, Ronu Majumdar and Amaan Ali Khan, workshops in Hip Hop, music, dance, art & craft, theatre and graffiti and a theatre performance by GRIPS titled Nayee Bahar and Project Aditi.
The IGUM will be held at the Deccan College grounds from Jan 11-20.
