Imagine a situation where an emergency strikes at midnight. You are hosting a late night party and suddenly the electricity goes off. Or, when you return home at night after a gruelling day, you find the floor flooded with water due to  leakage in the kitchen sink or a burst pipe.

What will you do? Would you either call off the party; or do nothing since no plumbing services and electricians are available at night. Will you wait till the next morning to call the electrician/plumber?

No longer. As, now, late night home services are available just a click away. In mega cities, these emergency 24x7 home services, like food delivery services, are catching up.

Bengaluru-based home maintenance and repair services platform Onetimejobs.com recently launched the electrician and plumbing emergency services available even at the wee hour. “It’s like an SOS at a distance. In a month, we have already provided over 30 such services to our clients,” said Major Prashant Rai, Founder-CEO who launched the startup-aggregator after retiring from the Indian Army, told BusinessLine . For this late night service, 50% extra charges are levied.

Not only this, he said, Onetimejobs.com is all set to launch a distress service also in a month’s time. “If you are travelling and there is an emergency at home, you can just call us to send somebody to your home to check and report, including in cases like dowry harassment. We will also send verified security guards or help for old people.”

Mobile marketplace for local services UrbanClap.com, which launched its emergency service in November 2015, is currently sending 2,000 to 3,000 drivers-on-demand as part of this 24x7 initiative. “We are shortly launching night services for such household requirements like electrician, plumber and carpenter for those people who cannot afford to be at home in day hours”, a spokesman said.

The Gurgaon-based UrbanClap claims to have its 50,000 professional partners hired by 6,000-plus customers everyday. “We would shortly have presence across Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, and other cities as well.”

Shaifali Holani, Founder-CEO, EasyFix, said such services are spreading awareness among users. “We expect a 40% month-on-month growth.”
