Omega, the watch brand associated with elegance and refinement had created history with the introduction of the Omega Ladymatic line of watches in 1955. Their Ambassadors from George Clooney and Nicole Kidman to Cindy Crawford and Zhang Ziyi epitomise glamour and style, reflecting the brand's core design values. This is further exemplified in the Ladymatic line, which has caught the attention of women through the generations. The fifties glitz and glamour is what makes the watch even more appealing in today's world obsessed with television serials dedicated to that decade. Nicole Kidman, the face of the line agreed saying, “There's a fascination with the era which means the advertisements can be playful without turning back the clock…really a sort of wink.” The watch launched in 1955 was one of the first self-winding watches designed by the brand exclusively for women. It also featured the smallest automatic movement ever made by Omega. Now, it is an emblematic series which has endured the years and still shines with beauty.
Fifties charm
The decision to revive the line recently cemented the notion that women are a growing market for automatic watches. The name is symbolic of the idea of producing automatic watches for women, something that was highly symbolic in the fifties but might still be relevant today. Omega's President Stephen Urquhart stated that the watches are designed for women who give as much importance to the movement as to the style and look of the watch. It's been 57 years since the first Ladymatic but the love for the watch line has not waned and Kidman agreed that nowadays, the interest seen in the movement of watches is not gender-specific. For these women, the Ladymatic line has some real treasures that can accompany any outfit and jazz up any style, for a night out or a quiet event during the day.
The Ladymatic now
The watches in this line now feature a ceramic ring between the outer decorative wave and inner case body, with the size of the watch kept at 34mm.You can choose between a polished bezel and one adorned with snow-set diamonds. Even the crown can feature a brilliant Omega Cut diamond for added bling. But of interest to many is the movement, which can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback. Earlier, Omega sometimes even used hesalite in their watches instead. The movement is an Omega Co-Axial calibre 8520/8521, up from the calibre 455, 661, 671, 681, etc that were in the Ladymatics created decades ago. It has featured another innovation more than a decade ago with the Co-Axial escapement. This, along with Omega's Si 14 silicon balance spring and certified chronometer make the Ladymatic line even more covetable for those who love mechanical movements.
There are a number of design varieties of the Ladymatic available today. The dial face with the supernova pattern is eye-catching and the diamonds at the hour markers make them even more so. If diamonds are not your thing, you can even choose the design with no hour markers. The diamond-polished date window is an added feature. Alligator leather straps can be chosen or you can opt for the models with metal bracelets matching their cases. Whatever your taste in watches or designs, you are sure to find your match in the Ladymatic line of wristpieces by Omega. Technical expertise is combined with elegant design to produce a piece for the woman of today.
