Salman Khan may be controversy’s favourite child, but his box office charm seems to be working overtime. The Bollywood superstar’s cross border-themed Bajrangi Bhaijaan has crossed ₹102.60 crore in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali has already made a box-office collection of ₹300 crore, eight days after its release. The dubbed-in-Hindi version has crossed ₹50 crore in two weeks.

With regard to Salman’s film, Eros International said this is the highest single-day collection, which touched ₹38.75 crore on Sunday. The film is being screened simultaneously in more than 5,000 screens globally. In India, it has been released in about 4,500 screens. Trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted, “ Bajrangi Bhaijaan trails in the wake of in the blockbuster takings of the multi-lingual Baahubali - ₹ 300 crore so far - which spent a week in theatres before Salman’s film arrived.”

However, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has broken the other Khans’ record, making its 100 crore quicker than Aamir’s PK and Shah Rukh’s Happy New Year , both of which stopped just short of the finish line in weekend one. PK is currently Bollywood’s biggest earner at home and abroad. Salman’s biggest film so far has been 2014’s Kick which made ₹231.85 crore.”

Salman, 49, is currently in the midst of a long-drawn litigation appealing against a five-year sentence handed down to him in a hit-and-run case.
