When tribal communities throng your neighbourhood, it becomes imperative to engage with them and help them realise their true potential.
That’s what Tata Steel endeavoured to do this week when it organised a four-day tribal conclave in Jamshedpur, inviting a large number of tribal guests.
There were artists, thought leaders, eminent personalities and activists from over 40 different tribes from 19 States including Andaman & Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha and Tripura.
The discussions and events centred on a multitude of themes, particularly touching upon tribal livelihoods, their vulnerable groups, protection of their habitat, indigenous medicine systems, languages and literature. A round table for tribal women and a showcase of their textiles, handicrafts and culture gave it that extra edge.
