UK has emerged as the most popular holiday choice for Indian travellers in 2013 followed by the US and Thailand, according to a survey. The mid-year travel trends data compiled by travel search site Skyscanner reveals that when it comes to a holiday, Indian travellers are lured by the West indicative of a burgeoning Indian economy.
For instance, the UK was the most popular destination not only in 2013 but in 2012 as well recording the highest number of flight searches from India followed by short haul destinations such as Thailand and the UAE.
Similarly, when it comes to fastest growing outbound destinations in 2013, the US seems to be in the lead recording a phenomenal 229 per cent increase in flight searches from India as opposed to last year followed by Canada which recorded a 182 per cent increase in flight searches. Emerging destinations such as Poland and Russia have also recorded a steady increase in flight searches compared with the corresponding period last year.
The report added that majority of Indians preferred week-long holidays. However, shorter breaks such as four and three days were equally popular implying that Indians were inclining to break away from the ‘one annual break’ mould and would rather look forward to several breaks of a shorter duration in a year.
