The Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to developing Seemandhra (the residual State of Andhra Pradesh) on par with Gujarat and will do everything possible to bring new investments and industries into the State, the party’s State unit president K Haribabu said here on Tuesday.
He was speaking at a meet-the-press programme organised by the Vizag Journalists’ Forum here. He is also the BJP candidate for the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency.
“We want it extended to ten years and we will do it, after we assume charge at the Centre under the leadership of Modi.
“We have struck up an alliance with the Telugu Desam Party and together both parties would strive to develop Seemandhra. Decentralised development and decentralised administration would be our motto,” he explained.
Haribabu said the State had a long coastline of almost 1,000 km and it should be developed the same way Gujarat’s has. “We will set up a maritime board on the Gujarat model and develop the coast.
“The State has many natural advantages and both industry and tourism can be promoted. We are also committed to the completion of the mega Polavaram project on the Godavari,” he said. He said Narendra Modi had made a proposal to develop 100 smart cities across the country and the State unit planned to ask him to develop the new capital of Andhra Pradesh as a smart city.
TDP alliance He exhorted the public to vote for the BJP-TDP alliance candidates to reap the maximum benefit for the State in the post-bifurcation scenario.
“It is certain that the NDA will form the Government at the Centre and therefore it is in our interests to vote for the BJP-TDP alliance,” he concluded.
The BJP is contesting four out of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Seemandhra, with the TDP fielding candidates in the rest as a part of their electoral alliance.
