A suicide bomber blew himself up near Pakistan’s military headquarters at Rawalpindi today, killing four people, a day after Taliban suicide bombing inside a cantonment killed 20 troops.

Fourteen people were injured in the blast that took place near RA bazar.

According to initial reports, a suicide bomber riding a bicycle was intercepted when he blew himself near the market. Four persons, including a 19-year-old student who was on his way to college, were killed.

Security forces reached the site immediately after the incident and cordoned off the area while the residents were forced to stay indoors. Nearby buildings were also damaged due to the explosion.

Security was put on high alert throughout the area after the blast.

A senior journalist working for a leading paper and who lives in Rawalpindi said: “Heard it (blast) loud and clear. Windows vibrated.’’

The blast comes a day after Taliban militants struck the cantonment at Bannu in the northwest of the country, killing 20 security personnel and injuring 30 others.
