A 24-hour strike by Belgian rail workers starting Sunday night was expected to cause delays and cancellations for people travelling between Brussels and Paris.

The strike, called to protest staff shortages and poor working conditions, will likely affect some domestic and international trains on Monday as well.

The Belgian railway company SNCB said it expected only a partial disruption of services because some unions refused to join the strike. The strike will begin on 10 pm Belgian time (0800 GMT) on Sunday.
