Disney reported a 4 per cent rise in third quarter revenues on Tuesday, fueled by increased sales at its media networks and the parks and resorts division.

The entertainment conglomerate, which owns US broadcasters including ESPN and ABC, said it earned $ 11.6 billion in the quarter, up from $ 11.1 billion a year ago.

Net income rose to $ 3.35 billion from $ 3.24 billion a year earlier.

“We are pleased with the results we delivered in the third quarter,” said Robert Iger, chairman and chief executive of The Walt Disney Company. “We are confident that our strategy of creating high-quality branded content positions us well for the future.” The company’s media networks saw revenue grow 5 per cent to $ 5.35 billion, on the strength of increased demand for advertising.

Visitors flocked to the Company’s resorts and theme parks, which saw revenue grow 7 per cent.
