India-bound Samjhauta Express train was delayed for a few hours today after its engine caught fire in Pakistan’s Punjab province, officials said.
The locomotive burst into flames near Mughalpura station this morning, railway police official Javed Anwar said.
All 312 passengers on board the train were safe, he said.
Fire brigade staff rushed to the site and detached the engine from the cross-border train. A replacement engine was sent from Lahore and the train resumed its journey after a delay of a few hours, officials said.
