Facebook unveiled a beefed-up set of privacy controls on Wednesday that offer users the ability to select the information that apps will get to see. Users will also be able to log in anonymously to try new apps without revealing their personal information, the company said in a blog posting.
"Anonymous Login lets people log in to apps so they don't have to remember usernames and passwords, but it doesn't share personal information from Facebook," the announcement said.
The posting said that last year people logged into Facebook more than 10 billion times. Now with the new version of Facebook Login people can select the data an app gets on each log in. This will be especially useful for those who want to use apps but refrain from doing so for fear that the app will post information to the user's page.
"By giving people more control they will trust the app more," Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said.
