Greek civil servants continued a lock-down of the country’s public services for the second straight day on Thursday to protest against the government’s decision to cut jobs as part of its bailout commitments.
Doctors, teachers, lawyers, rubbish collectors and social security staff joined the 48-hour strike across Greece, which saw tens of thousands demonstrating in various cities on Wednesday.
Workers are also expected to hold rallies across the country on Thursday.
The strike comes ahead of a meeting of Greece’s international creditors in Athens next week.
The government plans to suspend 25,000 public servants this year, and to fire 15,000 by the end of 2014.
