India offering aid to Mauritius for strategic projects

Talks between India and Mauritius re-started last year after the two countries resolved their differences and signed the DTAA.

Anand Kalyanraman India is helping Mauritius is some of its strategic projects, said Ashit Kumar Gungah, Mauritius’ Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection.

“One of the major projects we are going to take up very soon is partly being financed by the Government of India. It consists of the construction of a jetty and storage tanks for petroleum products. MRPL and Indian Oil are part of this project. Another project...is the metro express; the first phase will be ready by September,” said Gungah.

Besides, India is helping Surinam provide 24-hour electricity to 50 villages.
