Joe Biden won New York’s Democratic Presidential primary on Tuesday, a pro forma victory that comes more than two weeks after he accumulated enough delegates to clinch the nomination.
New York had initially cancelled its primary in response to fears about the coronavirus, but a federal appeals court last month ordered state Democratic officials to hold the vote on June 23 after presidential candidate Andrew Yang had challenged the cancellation.
The ballot featured 10 candidates. Yang has endorsed Biden.
A surge of absentee ballots means New York residents may have to wait a week to learn the outcome of some high-profile primary face-offs, including Representative Eliot Engels bid to retain his seat against Jamaal Bowman, a progressive backed by Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a fellow New Yorker.
